First of all, I love love love your bookshelves - holy shit. Anton’s and Oslo are favorites of mine too! But UGH I have such mixed feelings about WV right now. What gets to me is the entitlement of a lot of the (especially young, 25 and under I’d say) people who live there now. There will always be lots of magic, incredible energy & local businesses there that I love dearly… but I worry that it has shifted lots toward entitlement and cookie cutter culture
I was just visiting NYC and went out in the West Village one night of my stay. I was shocked to see that hoards of women were all wearing the same outfits to go out in as they do here in college town, Missouri. I thought they'd have more style but... those black going-out tops and big ass jeans really are it no matter where you are I guess!!!! Saved these spots for my next trip.
I'm a native New Yorker but I hadn't spent much time in the WV until the summer after Covid, age 25, falling in love for the first time. The Village was quiet then, because everyone had fled the city, and he was not from here either, but we navigated quiet streets and our own long afternoons on the river. I won't share my spots, because they were sacred to me, but it did feel so different, even though I was the interloper. There were still places I could discover on my own that still felt down to earth, and homey. Personally I'm glad articles are coming out, because I feel bitter and I'm less alone in it
I too am a native New Yorker and just feel disappointed with the lack of engagement in historic/longstanding elements of WV; it seems like most New Yorkers share the sentiment of wanting to preserve the magic and culture of the city and “hot spots” or the sole focus on dining/going out to the sceney spots seems to be all people reach for these days.

Love this list as a fellow 9+ year WV girlie! So sad Llama San is closing in June 😢
Bar Pisellino is my favorite place for a sweet/salty hot chocolate/cacio e pepe chip combo. It's the perfect fancy-ish junk food treat!
Okay llama San and Anton’s look so good. Going to NY in June and def visiting both
saved every single spot into my google maps want to go list 🙂↕️
this is a 10/10 roundup, thank you for your service.
Pretty sure that strawberry matcha would cure seasonal depression— great post, thought provoking too 💭🫶🏻🫶🏻
So many great recommendations. Thank you! Love the stories.

Rip Llama San </3
Ok everyone go before they close ^^^ it’s such a gem of the west village
did it close?!?!?
Closing in June :(
why do i feel like the reason they’re closing is bc the west village is legit not open to any restaurants that aren’t italian
I think you need to write a part 2 just about that part.
